BRAND: SANDY LIANG
WHERE: NEW YORK
Sandy Liang, a 24-year-old Parsons graduate, was barely out of college when she launched her namesake label in 2014. Thanks to support from a growing posse of “it” girls—as well as internship experience at Opening Ceremony and 3.1 Phillip Lim—Liang’s quirky tomboy aesthetic has quickly gained momentum. Only three seasons after her New York Fashion Week debut, her brand is currently stocked at a growing number of retailers all over the world, including Assembly in New York, Edit in Hong Kong, and Wald in Berlin.
Whether it’s a baby blue mink overcoat, a bubblegum pink biker jacket, or a surprisingly flattering pair of cropped wide-leg trousers, Liang’s wares all share a vibe of confident nonchalance. This sense informs her spontaneous creative process as well. “I like that I get to design at my own pace, and there’s no need to fulfill a certain look that’s been decided on,” she says. “Things, including the direction of the collection, can change and evolve every day.” —Liza Darwin
